DORSET Police is now recruiting special constables.
Specials are volunteer police officers who have the same powers as regular police officers, wear the same uniform and are issued with the same equipment.
Chief Constable Debbie Simpson said: “Becoming a special constable is a great opportunity for individuals who want to give their time to make a difference.“ Specials in Dorset get involved in a range of day-to-day policing activities, including patrol work, community events, targeted operations and specialist training. There are special constables dedicated to traffic, marine and rural policing as well as general patrol duties.
A special constable is asked to work a minimum of 16 hours per month and, where possible, this is broken down to a minimum of four hours per week, but the working hours are flexible.
Police and crime commissioner for Dorset Martyn Underhill said: “With the current cuts to policing, this is an excellent opportunity for the people of Dorset to serve their community and gain fantastic experience in life skills.”
