Moor stars set to glitter for watchers

A STARGAZING event at Moors Valley Country Park, cancelled on January 19 due to snow and ice, has been rescheduled to take place on Saturday, March 2.

The Wessex Astronomical Society, in association with BBC Stargazing LIVE, is inviting people to join them for an evening under the stars from 6.30pm until 10pm.

Introductory talks take place in the visitor centre at 7.15pm and 8.15pm before heading out to view the constellations.

A selection of telescopes will be available to use on the lakeside picnic area and a range of children’s crafts will be on offer.

Education ranger Tracy Standish said: “This will be the second time we have run a stargazing event at Moors Valley and I’m looking forward to introducing more people to the exciting world of astronomy.

“There is no need to book, just turn up on the evening and register at the information point in the visitor centre. But wrap up warm and bring a torch for use in the car park.”

All ages are welcome and tickets are £3 per adult and £2 for accompanied children. In the event of bad weather, people should contact the rangers on 01425 470721 on the day to confirm the event will go ahead.

Seasons restaurant will serving hot snacks until 8pm.
