THE Active Games for All group (AGFA) held a quiz at Verwood Memorial Hall to raise money for a long-awaited multi use games area (Muga) at the town’s the recreation ground.
And the proceeds, along with a donation from Verwood Talented Youth. means the group has hit its target to build the Muga.
The quiz was promoted by Pamela Wellstead and organised by AGFA members Marilyn and Ernest Whatmore, who welcomed more than 100 guests including mayor Simon Gibson.
Cllr Gibson, a founder member of AGFA, said: “AGFA is such a small but dedicated group of residents who have worked tremendously hard to get this facility.”
The quiz raised about £700, which has been match funded by the town council. The council is funding up to £50,000 of the project’s costs.
The quiz, along with other recent fundraising means that the final figure has been reached, with work due to start next week.
Cllr Gibson added: “It is very exciting that work will soon commence on the MUGA so that everyone can enjoy it in time for the summer. It is great seeing Verwood residents coming out to support the project and the AGFA group.”
Verwood Talented Youth concerts raised £800 for Agfa, which was matched by the town council.
The pantomime society also raised £800, bringing the group to the completion of their target for the project;.
