CHILDREN from Fordingbridge Junior School learned all about bread baking and sandwich making at the town’s Co-op store.

As part of the Year 5 Eat Your Words project, groups of pupils learned about bread and fillings under the watch of store manager Mark Dobb and teacher Sarah Andrews.

And while the youngsters were fascinated by baking, they were even more excited about the freezer store.

Mrs Andrews said: “The children liked going into the big freezer and seeing how the bread was stored. They also got to see the ovens and how the bread is prepared to be baked. The store was very welcoming to us and we had a very good visit.”

Mr Dobb said: “We showed the pupils all areas of the store, with particular attention paid to the bakery area, as we bake the bread on the premises.

“The bread is stored in the freezer rooms, which are very cold, and the children loved testing out how cold the room was. They were queuing up to have a turn – they were loving it.

“We are very much a store that likes helping in our community.”
