Furlong to get electric car charge point
RINGWOOD will soon have a rapid electric vehicle charge point that can charge electric cars in 20 to 30 minutes.
The charge point at The Furlong is one six key locations across Hampshire that will be available to electric car users.
The Government has made £315,000 available to Hampshire County Council for the implementation of the charge points.
They will be fitted with two different types of connector and will use a pay as you go system for which no registration is required, allowing access to all electric vehicle users.
Sean Woodward, the council’s executive member for economy, transport and environment said: “The county council wants to make a significant contribution to cutting carbon emissions in Hampshire alongside developing transport infrastructure to meet future demands.
“One of the barriers to people buying electric vehicles is easy and quick access to charging points, but this is the starting point of breaking this barrier down.”
The Government have set aside £37m to offset the cost of installing the charge points as part of its plan to support ultra low emission vehicles.
The funding received will cover 75 per cent of the costs of purchasing and installing the charge points.
