Fire link-up could save cash
1:00pm Sunday 22nd September 2013 in New Forest News
FIRE chiefs in Dorset have been discussing sharing services with a neighbouring brigade in order to make savings.
Dorset Fire and Rescue Service Chief Fire Officer Darran Gunter went to London on Monday to talk to politicians about the future of the service.
An independent report by Sir Ken Knight published this year highlighted the scope for fire services to find millions in savings while safeguarding emergency operations and protecting the public.
Mr Gunter said: “I was invited to give evidence to the Select Committee on the Knight Review. Staff at both Dorset Fire and Rescue and Wiltshire Fire & Rescue have been working together to establish how we can obtain savings through better operational and back office relationships.
“It goes without saying that our communities would expect us to look for possible savings before we consider adverse changes to our service delivery.”
