A RINGWOOD company has launched an “ethical online market place” to offer conscientious shoppers a one-stop shop for fairly-sourced products.

Madecloser.co.uk already has many manufacturers on board, selling everything from TVs to tea towels.

John Palaguta-Iles launched the site after two years of work and now a team of five are working from their Crow Arch Lane unit.

He said: “People can now vote with their wallets and make an informed choice. We are transparent and honest, so shoppers are being clearly informed of where their goods are coming from.”

As much as two-thirds of Made Closer’s profits will go to charities and social causes, with shoppers being able to choose which one they want to benefit from their purchases.

Already scores of UK-made brands are trading through the website, including Britain's only TV manufacturer Cello, New Forest Aromatics, Maude and Fox plus Herbjar and Yull Shoes.

Mr Palaguta-Iles said: “It has been reported in the media for years that British manufacturing is on the decline, but there are thousands of British businesses out there, selling well-made goods with admirable principles.

“Made Closer provides a platform for companies to get their products out there, to sell and distribute.

“We have just touched the tip of the iceberg as our market force is growing each day.”

He added: “I wanted to make it simple, what you see is what you pay, so delivery is included.

“No aneurysms at the checkout for the customer, plus you get a discount when buying more than one item from participating merchants.

“This has been a big positive for us and a large competitive advantage.

“We are passionate about driving manufacturing trends in the right direction.

“By supporting British companies we are doing our part to help the British economy.”
