Mayor thanks carnival volunteers
8:30am Wednesday 9th October 2013 in New Forest News
RINGWOOD Mayor Steve Rippon- Swayne has paid tribute to the volunteers and businesses who have kept the carnival thriving.
Mr Rippon-Swayne says community support for Ringwood Carnival was “tremendous”.
He said: “In some towns and villages, carnivals have been lost because of a lack of support by individuals and businesses.
“In Ringwood the carnival lives on, thanks entirely to the very willing volunteers assembled by the carnival committee together with the tremendous support that the committee receives from businesses in the town.
“It is my sincere hope that the carnival committee continues its wonderful work and that it will be able to find more volunteers to continue with the superb event at the end of each summer.”
The procession was halted midway through the evening celebrations while Mr Rippon-Swayne unveiled the Jubilee Lamp, which has been refurbished as part of the town council’s restoration project.
The restoration work was funded by the town council with grant support from the Cleaning Services Group (CSG).
Ian Carnell of CSG said: “We are delighted to support this worthwhile project to help restore the Jubilee Lamp to its former glory and make it more accessible for visitors to come and enjoy.”
