Pupils learn about Diwali
PUPILS at Breamore Primary School have been learning all about Diwali.
The festival marks the Hindu New Year and celebrates the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance, although the legends vary across different parts of India.
Surrinder Bellamy and her daughter Safia, of Pure Punjabi, helped children produce authentic festival food.
Headteacher Emma Clark said: “Diwali was held in conjunction with the Woodgreen Village Communty Shop, which has Lottery funding to run a food and festival project and Diwali was part of their programme of events.
“The children had a fantastic day. It was really lovely.
“They learned all about the festival and then made food, including naan bread and onion bhajis to serve to parents at the end of the day.”
