Shop owner’s plea for redesign help
A SHOP owner in Ringwood is appealing for volunteers to help give her High Street dress agency a make-over as she struggles to keep the 13-year-old business going.
Denise Davenport of Pret a Porter says she is at her “wits’ end” having struggled to remain open because of rising costs and dwindling takings.
She says she is trapped in a 25-year lease and the terms of it mean she would have to still pay for the remaining years even if she shut up shop.
But that rent is becoming harder and harder to find, and she says customers are no longer shopping in her “tired” and “old-fashioned” premises.
Now, in a last-ditch attempt to woo customers back, she is closing on November 17 for four days to try to give the shop a lick of paint and, she hopes, a redesign to tempt people back.
Ms Davenport said: “This shop has been the love of my life for the past 13 years and I do not want to lose it, but I have done everything I can think of and am at my wits’ end.
“The shop desperately needs a facelift, but I cannot do it on my own and I don’t have the funds to do it.”
Ms Davenport added: “Any help would be gratefully received. Perhaps a design student would like a project to get their teeth into, or maybe fashion or business people could help me out?
“I know it can be done, and I'd welcome any support people would like to give me.”
Any volunteers who wish to get involved in this project can contact Ms Davenport on 01425 476090 or e mail Ddenise582@aol.com .
