A SLICE of a 1980s Yorkshire mining village will come to life at the Ringwood School Theatre.

Ringwood Musical & Dramatic Society is presenting the play Brassed Off, a gritty comedy following the fortunes of a colliery brass band and its members as they struggle to come to terms with pit closures and economic hardship.

Also featuring Ringwood & Burley Band taking the role of the fictional Grimley Colliery Band, Brassed Off promises some great brass band music, a lot of laughs, tragedy and some strong language.

It’s based on the well-known film starring Pete Postlethwaite, Ewan McGregor and Tara Fitzgerald, and will be instantly familiar to anyone who remembers the 1980s miners’ strike that tore apart northern communities and families as Margaret Thatcher’s Government sought to defeat the mining unions.

Brassed Off will be performed at 7.30pm from Wednesday, October 30, to Saturday, November 2. Tickets, from £8, are available at www.rmds.org.uk or on 07597 771701.
