Mother found man, 23, hanging in bedroom
12:17pm Wednesday 30th October 2013 in New Forest News
THE body of a 23-year-old North Gorley man was discovered hanging in his bedroom by his mother.
An inquest into the death of Sam Hayes heard he had returned to his home after work on September 10.
He spent a couple of hours with his mother Nadine and one of her friends, before going up to his bedroom at about 8pm.
His mother, having prepared dinner, called for him to go downstairs at 8.40pm, but after not getting any response went up to his room on the third floor. When she went into his room she found him hanging.
During the inquest at Southampton Coroners’ Court, Coroner Keith Wiseman said: “It was obviously extremely distressing finding him, the emergency services were called and he was cut down but it was quite clear that he had died.”
He was pronounced dead at Salisbury District Hospital.
Mr Wiseman told the inquest: “He was known to be upset about the fact that he had recently failed part of his pilot’s training at a job that I think he had been aiming at for quite some time.”
He also added that he had recently split up with his girlfriend, and that Mr Hayes had no known mental health concerns or issues with drugs or alcohol.
Describing his death as a “very sad case”, Mr Wiseman recorded a verdict that he had taken his own life.
