Farewell to founder of children's charity
1:00pm Friday 1st November 2013 in New Forest News
THE founder of a local charity helping children and young people with special needs has retired after decades of dedication.
Shirley Lavis set up The Sarah Kinsley Fund in the 1970s along with a group of friends to support a teenager, Sarah Kinsley, who had developed kidney failure.
Sarah died before the money raised for her could be used, but the fund continued its work in her name and subsequently became a registered charity.
The charity’s patron Doone Hulse, past and present trustees and members of the fund gathered together for a tea party to thank Mrs Lavis for her work.
She was presented with a bouquet of flowers, a cheque and a tribute card.
The charity would like to thank everyone who supported the coffee morning at Breamore House, raising £519.20.
