REPORTS of criminal damage fell drastically over Halloween and Bonfire Night in the Forest.
From October 29 to November 12, there were only 68 reported cases of criminal damage in the area compared with 114 incidents over the same time in 2012.
Safer New Forest partners attended Halloween and Bonfire Night events to give the message ‘Be Safe Be Seen’ and helped youngsters put on flashing armbands, funded by the Safer New Forest Partnership, so they could be seen in the dark.
Police, fire and council community safety officers joined staff from the Forestry Commission, street pastors and local youth workers to bring the message home.
Chief Inspector Tony Rowlinson said: “We welcome the decline in criminal damage. I am pleased that less people have been affected as a victim of this crime.
“This follows a near 15 per cent reduction in antisocial behaviour across the New Forest since April 1 compared to the same period last year. Total reported crime is also down by over 10 per cent. We encourage residents to stay safe and report any concerns to us on 101.”
