YEAR 3 pupils from Trinity First School in Verwood went back in time at Wren Hall in Salisbury as part of their term’s topic, the Victorians.

The children have enjoyed looking at the life of Queen Victoria and what it was like to be a child growing up in the Victorian era. Their trip to Wren Hall gave the children a taste of a Victorian Christmas and how it was different to today.

They began the day dressing up in traditional Victorian clothes, then when they got to Salisbury they were met by the maids of the house, who showed the children how to make sugar mice.

The Master of the House told them a Russian Christmas story, and in the afternoon the children were able to play some classic Victorian games.

The day ended with a special visitor who gave the children a traditional Victorian Christmas present of a candy cane and an orange.

One of the teachers said: “It was a fantastic end to a hectic term and really brought home to the children what it would have been like growing up 150 years ago.”
