YOUNG Carers from across the New Forest have been demonstrating their design skills, thanks to the generosity of Hampshire County Council and the artists from the Colour Factory in Winchester.

The group, all aged between seven and 12, took advantage of the break from their daily caring roles to show off their creative sides.

One eight-year-old carer said: “It was great fun splattering paint around and then making stencils and sticking things to my T-shirt.”

Young carers coordinator Marie Shotbolt said: “Even the most nervous of our young carers had a great time and created something lovely to take home.

“From the amount of chatter and laughter, you would never have guessed that most of them were on their first trip out with us and didn’t know anyone else. Activities like this are important so that children get to meet other young carers and realise they’re not alone. We’re really grateful to Charlotte, the Youth Arts Officer at Hampshire County Council.”

The Young Carers Service currently works with Young Carers and their families providing support, advice and activities. For details call 01425 482773 or visit the Community First website. You can also find them on Facebook – New Forest Young Carers and Twitter @NF_YoungCarers.
