A LITTLE village is getting a big name for itself as thousands or revellers are heading to Alderholt for its five-day reCreate Festival.

The Easter-themed festival kicks off today with hundreds of children joining the creative workshops which will run until Sunday in the heated marquee on the recreation ground.

The Kepow Theatre Company performs a Crazy Little Thing Called Love tonight.

Alderholt’s biggest-ever quiz night will take place tomorrow night in the marquee.

Headlining at this year’s festival will be power rock trio Dodgy, best known for 90s pop hits Staying Out for the Summer and If You're Thinking of Me, who are playing on Friday night.

And a comedy night featuring Andy Kind, Paul Kerensa and Chris Turner will perform on Saturday night.

Alderholt’s reCreate Festival was launched in 2012 and has secured pop stars for the last two years, along with a multi-award winning theatre show and a host of other attractions.

The festival will culminate in a reCreate service in the marquee at 11am on Sunday, followed by a barbecue, bouncy castle and music from Bournemouth folk trio Willowen.

Rev Pip Martin said: “St James’s Church has always been at the centre of local community life and we see the reCreate Festival as an opportunity for people to get together, enjoy some amazing events and from the experience be inspired to do some more amazing things|wherever they live.

“Normally you have to go a long way – and pay a lot – to get this kind of festival atmosphere, but we believe local is best and thanks to some great volunteers and sponsors we are making Alderholt the place to be this week.”
