RESIDENTS at Allenbrook Nursing Home in Fordingbridge were spoilt for choice when the third Great Allenbrook Bake Off was held.

A record entry of 11 cakes were submitted by staff, visitors and residents for the delectation of all.

Mayor Malcolm Connolly was guest of honour and was keen to sample the entries as well as spending time with many of the residents and visitors who attended this popular annual event.

With previous two-time champion Mark Cox absent this year, the opportunity for a new winner to take home the Bake Off trophy meant standards were higher than ever and with the votes counted, just a single point separated winner Holly Hiorns from runner-up Jose Anthony, with Anita Merrick a further two points behind in third place.

Manager Ian Stott said: “Each year, the Bake Off gets bigger and better and is a great way to bring residents, families and staff together.”

Allenbrook is holding its annual Midsummer Barbecue on June 18 from 6.30pm to 8pm for residents, carers, family and friends.

The event has been held for more than 20 years.
