VERWOOD’S carnival organisers are gearing up for a great day tomorrow, with procession entrants gathering at midday at The Fuzzy Bit off Crane Drive.

The carnival, which has been going since 1929, is promising something for everyone this year, with a funfair, stalls, and games.

The Adrenaline Tour motorbike and quad bike stunt display team will be jumping over a lorry, the Mighty Smith Show (a former World’s Strongest Man) will be there, Mere Down Falconry will put on a display and a tug-of-war competition will be held, plus Punch & Judy.

The funfair will open tonight Admission is £3 and £1 for children (free if accompanied by an adult).

There’s a chance to win a family ticket to Legoland Windsor, thanks to Dorset Windows Ltd, and prizes for procession entries are £100 for the winner of the float category and £50 for the winning walking entry. There will be other prizes for second and third places, and the procession is free to enter.

This year the procession will be returning to its usual route, leaving at 12.45pm and going past the recreation ground, along vicarage road and back to the carnival field via Church Hill.

Carnival chairman Adrian Read said: “It’s going to be a brilliant day.

“We’ve spent a lot of money making it extra special this year.”

A short service will also be held on Ferrett Green at 11am that day for Armed Forces Day.
