NEW Forest charities can get a much needed boost thanks to the Gannett Foundation.

The foundation is the charitable arm of the Forest Journal’s parent company and provides funding to support local projects and organisations in areas where Newsquest operates.

In the past, charities in the New Forest have made successful applications for funding.

New Forest and District Sailability has received funding twice. A grant of £6,500 in 2012 for a new Access 303 dinghy to join their fleet of 13 at Blashford Lake near Ringwood and £5,000 in 2007 towards a new ramp which made it quicker and easier for disabled sailors to board their boats.

Sandleheath Sea Scouts received £2,000 in 2011 to replace their worn-out tents in time for their summer camp.

In the last ten years, the Gannett Foundation has made grants in the UK totalling more than £4m.

Local organisations can fill out an application form to apply for funds for things like schemes for neighbourhood improvement, youth development, education and cultural creativity or help for the disadvantaged or disabled.

All applicants must be registered charities and must not have received a Gannett grant within the last two years.

Projects that demonstrate good planning, oversight and financial responsibility are favoured and the foundation particularly welcomes reasoned applications for specific items of equipment or materials.

Applications must be sent electronically to Hilary Howell by 5pm on September 12 at hilary.howell@salisburyjournal.co.uk.
