THE television spotlight shone on two antique shops in Ringwood on Tuesday as they played host to BBC2’s Celebrity Antiques Road Trip for Children in Need.

Starring for the second time on the series, Lorraine Tarrant of Lorraine’s Antiques in the Market Place, says television bosses asked her to appear on the show again because of her “quirky personality”.

Science pundit and TV presenter Johnny Ball along with Road Trip presenter Charles Hanson turned up to hunt out hidden treasures from Mrs Tarrant’s collections for the weekday programme.

Mrs Tarrant said: “They kept my number because of the great rapport I had with them last time they filmed in my shop in 2012. This time they had the wonderful Johnny Ball.

“He is such a gentleman.

“It was a dark and dismal day and we just had the most wonderful time.

“It was such a giggle. I could not believe that they managed to get all the camera and filming equipment into my shop, but they did.

“I had the old, large shop last time they filmed with me.

“They bought three things that caught their eye, a pair of Bretby mead jugs, some silver buttons and a sharkskin lighter from the 1920s.

“I just hope they make a profit when they go to auction.”

While Mr Hanson and Mr Ball were whiling away their afternoon, television presenter John Craven and Road Trip’s Philip Serrell plus the film crew descended on Miller’s Antiques in Christchurch Road.

Shop owner Carole Miller said that the pair bought a propeller stand made from a sea plane and a continental grain mill.

Mrs Miller said: “The whole experience was interesting.

“I love old cars and it was rather wonderful when they arrived in an old, red sports car.

“The pair liked my showrooms and the stock inside.”

Antiques experts from the show set off on a road trip around the UK searching for treasures and competing to make the most money at auction.
