TWO pet rabbits have died after being dumped and left to fend for themselves in Dorset.

The pair were among six animals – four rabbits and two guinea pigs – abandoned on a track before being taken to the Ashley Heath Animal Centre.

One of the rabbits died before the RSPCA had been notified and the other was so emaciated it was later put down by vets.

The RSPCA is appealing for information about the animals, which were found abandoned on the track around 4pm on November 18.

RSPCA Inspector Graham Hammond said: “They had just been left there to fend for themselves and domestic rabbits and guinea pigs cannot just survive in the wild.”

The four surviving animals were a ginger and white and a black and white guinea pig, a lop eared rabbit and a brown short haired rabbit.

The RSPCA received 350 reports of animals abandoned in Dorset between January and October.

Anyone with information on this latest incident has been urged to contact the RSPCA in confidence on 0300 123 8018.

The animals were found near a locked gate close to The Cock and Bottle Inn, East Morden, near Wareham.
