LIFESKILLS came alive for the children of Year 4 at Forres Sandle Manor School in Fordingbridge, when the mayor Malcolm Connolly came in to teach them about his responsibilities.

Teacher Jacqueline Parker said: “Prior to his visit, the children had been exploring rules, rights and responsibilities and we wanted to see how this worked in our local town.

“Were there rules for Fordingbridge? Who made them?

“What were the mayor’s responsibilities and how easy did he find it to be responsible for our town?”

Mr Connolly showed the children his mayoral chain and explained the powers it gave him.

Mrs Parker added: “I think everyone came away with a sense that not only did the mayor take his role seriously, but that he really enjoyed serving his community.

“There were so many thoughtful questions as a result of his talk that we ran out of time.

“Hopefully, the Year 4s have been inspired to be more effective and responsible members of our school and local community.”
