BRANSGORE darts ace Scott Mitchell feels he will have the greater pressure on his shoulders as he prepares to tackle his maiden BDO world quarter-final tomorrow afternoon.

‘Scotty Dog’ will go head-to-head with world number 23 Brian ‘Doggy’ Dawson at Lakeside with a last-four spot and £15,000 on the line.

Neither player has reached this stage before but number four seed Mitchell feels he has more to lose than his opponent.

Mitchell said: “I’m the top seed left in the top half of the draw so that has a pressure of its own. There will be less pressure on Brian than there will be on me.

“He’s a Yorkshireman with lots of grit and he won’t be worried that he’s not seeded.

“Brian has been on the circuit for three or four years and this is the first time he has qualified for the world championship.

“He has missed out narrowly before so to bounce back and make it shows character. I know he has got a big heart.”

Mitchell, who has six world ranking titles to his name in the past 12 months, beat Geert De Vos last night to book a date with Dawson.

The Dorset thrower triumphed 4-2 as his Belgian opponent struggled after having to switch a damaged dart midway through the match.

“It feels absolutely amazing to be in the quarter-finals,” added Mitchell.

“I used to watch the world championship as a kid and Lakeside has always been a big part of my life around Christmas. For me to be doing this feels very surreal.

“But I do feel part of the place now. What’s pleasing for me at the moment is my consistency and averages, which have been really good.”
