TWO guinea pigs have been dumped in woods in Dorset.

The RSPCA is appealing for information after rescuing the small animals in woods of Matchams Lane, Hurn, last Wednesday morning.

The male guinea pigs were found by a kind-hearted member of the public who stayed with them until the arrival of an RSPCA officer.

One is ginger and black while the other is grey and white with long hair. Both were cold and wet. The grey and white guinea pig’s fur was matted on its rear.

They are now recovering and being cared for.

RSPCA animal collection officer Sue Brooks said: “I can’t thank the person who found these guinea pigs enough – I was helping another animal in need and wasn’t able to get there straight away but he stayed with them as he didn’t want them to come to any harm. “It is a shame that their owner didn’t have the same conscience.

She added: “We don’t think the guinea pigs were in the area for very long as they would have suffered more from the cold otherwise, so we desperately need anyone who may have seen something suspicious – or even who knows someone who had guinea pigs up until last Wednesday – to get in touch.

“People need to realise that it is just not acceptable to dump their pets when they no longer want them.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact the RSPCA inspector information line on 0300 123 8018.
