A PLUCKY pensioner injured in a fall outside her Ringwood home wants to thank three young people who came to her aid.

Bridget Baker, 89, fell on the pavement, smashing her glasses and suffering head and facial injuries.

But she is now making a good recovery thanks to the help of the Good Samaritans who helped her into her home and called the emergency services.

Mrs Baker said she was trying to unlock her front door at about 1pm on February 28, when her three-wheeled walking aid rolled down the pavement.

“I need both hands to unlock my door but when I let go of the walker, off it went,” she said.

“I tried to grab it but I went straight over and landed on my head.”

Mrs Baker said she was lying on the wet pavement, trying to get her phone out of her bag, when three young people walked towards her.

“There were two girls and one boy and one of the girls got down on the pavement with me to check if I was all right,” she said.

“They were very careful about moving me, but managed to get me into my home and onto a chair.

“They called the paramedics and waited for them to arrive before they left.

“I want to say thank you to all of them, particularly the young girl who was on the pavement with me. I’m worried she might have got blood on her clothes.”

Mrs Baker said all three were “young” and added: “When you’re nearly 90 everyone looks like a teenager, but I think they may have been in their 20s.”

She suffered cuts to her head and severe bruising to her face and one side of her body, but she said: “I’ll be fine – it’s that poor girl’s clothes I’m worried about.”
