They came away with three gold, ten silver and 12 bronze certificates.

The competition saw about 250,000 students from all types of schools and backgrounds compete against one another in a multiple choice problem solving test.

The top forty per cent of pupils receive bronze, silver or gold certificates while the very best students making it through to the next round of tests.

A spokesman for Burgate School and Sixth Form said: "These were without a doubt the best set of results achieved thus far in this competition in all the years the school has been entered for the Maths Challenge.

"Well done to all the students taking part for achieving an excellent set of results and representing the school in such a positive manner."

Henry Bostock came top and also made it through to the next round. He has already sat another more challenging multiple choice set of challenges.
