TAKE a walk on the wild side at Avon Heath Country Park and get up close to lizards, owls and butterflies.

Wild Sunday takes place on July 19 and there will be opportunities for visitors to learn about bushcraft, conservation, and try their hand at archery or make a lady bird box.

There are lots activities organised by the park’s team plus the RSPB, Dorset Wildlife Trust, the Butterflies Conservation group and more.

Birds of prey from Liberty’s Owl Raptor and Reptile Centre will also be visiting and there’s a chance to see the reptiles feeding in the park’s own vivarium.

There are also guided walks through the Dorset County Council run park near Ringwood.

Young daredevils can have a go on the zip wire, climbing wall, sand pit and tree house.

Cllr Peter Finney, the county council’s cabinet member for environment and economy, said: “Country parks are amazing places to visit – you can learn about the flora and fauna that live in our distinctive environment and make use of the facilities to plan walks and fitness trails.

“At any time of year there’s always something new to see and so each visit is a fresh experience.”

Entrance to the park is free but there is a charge for parking and some of the activities.
