THESE were the dramatic scenes as firefighters battled flames in an Alderholt field.

The fire service attended the incident at Higher Bull Hill Farm in Lower Daggons shortly after 6pm on Monday evening after receiving reports of a field fire in the area. And on arrival about 70 bales of hay were found alight.

Crews from Verwood, Cranborne and Fordingbridge used a high pressure hose reel to dampen down the area and control the fire to ensure it did not spread to adjoining land.

A spokesman for Dorset Fire and Rescue said: “The farmer assisted the firefighters in creating a fire break to prevent further spread of the fire. The bales of hay were allowed to burn out under supervision of firefighters."

Firefighters remained on scene until 9.12pm.
