A RACING driver seems to be on the mend following emergency treatment after a crash at Matchams Leisure Park near Ringwood on Saturday night.

At around 9.20pm members of the South West Ambulance Service were called to reports of a man from Southampton who had been injured during the Two Litres Bangers event, organised by Ringwood Raceway.

The man - known only as James - was kept in overnight and is now believed to be in the clear after medics assessed him for neck, spine and brain injuries.

The cause of his injuries is not yet known.

A spokeswoman for South West Ambulance Service said one crew was sent to the scene he had been put on a stretcher with a neck brace before being conveyed for further medical attention.

"There were already South West Central paramedics on scene, who were covering the event, so he was treated immediately,” she said.

“The patient suffered a possible spinal injury. We arrived and took him to Poole Hospital."

Event organisers have been contacted but have yet commented on the incident.
