THEY have been dubbed the Torvill and Dean of the dressage world.

Sophie Albery from Downton and Sarah Goddard from Whiteparish are the dressage duo crowned champions after clinching the National Dressage to Music Pairs competition.

Music filled the concourse at Bury Farm as the country's finest dressage horses and riders vied for national championship honours for their carefully-choreographed musical freestyles.

But it was Sophie on Wayland Arabesque and Sarah on Hurstfield Billy Bigalo, representing the New Forest Pony Enthusiasts Club, who captivated the crowds and the judges securing the trophy and a day with Team GB Paralympic gold medallist equestrian rider Natasha Baker MBE.

Sophie said: "It is my dream to ride as part of Team GB and in the Olympics one day, so I am so excited to meet Natasha.

"Sarah and I are so thrilled. It feels brilliant to win, we never thought we would. Sarah and I have been friends for about a decade and have been riding together for about three years.

"Bunty (Wayland Arabesque) is an amazing pony. She was national dressage champion in 2012."

Owner of Wayland Stud in Hale, Mary Bryant is no stranger to breeding champion New Forest ponies - Wayland Arabesque follows a long line of show stoppers.

Mary said: "Bunty is a credit to Wayland Stud and we are all very proud of Sophie who is an asset to us. Sophie started riding lessons here when she was just five years old."
