SOME 56 bridge enthusiasts visited Bishopstone Village Hall to raise much-needed funds for a Downton charity.

The event, organised by Helen and Stuart Middleton, raised £2,000 to support EdUKaid’s work with poor, disadvantaged children in Southern Tanzania. Players enjoyed a three-course lunch prepared by the hosts and willing helpers before embarking on an afternoon of bridge.

The event ended with a raffle of prizes donated by attendees and other supporters.

EdUKaid’s programme director Teresa Wells said: “This is a fantastic amount raised through the Charity Bridge Lunch that will make a significant difference to some of the world’s most disadvantaged children.

"All the money raised from this event will pay for equipment and resources to help children in particularly remote areas of Tanzania to get an education and the opportunity to improve their lives dramatically.

"We are incredibly grateful to Helen and Stuart Middleton for organising the event and to everyone that helped or took part.”
