A FORDINGBRIDGE great grandmother has celebrated her 100th birthday.

Eileen Mussell was joined by friends and family to mark the milestone with a special lunch at the Avonway Community Centre on Sunday.

The Mayor of Fordingbridge, Cllr Malcolm Connolly, also dropped by to congratulate Eileen on her Centenary.

Eileen was born on December 19, 1916, in the middle of the First World War.

She was originally from Rockbourne but moved to Fordingbridge on her marriage to Cyril Mussell in 1940, who was a local gas fitter. And in 1942 they were living in Penny’s Lane.

Sadly, Eileen’s husband died when she was only 42, leaving her to bring up two teenage sons, John and Grahame, on her own.

Despite her advanced age she is still living alone in her own home in Fordingbridge.
