FORMULA 1 legend Murray Walker joined residents at Allenbrook Nursing Home in Fordingbridge for a 1970s-themed day to mark Dementia Awareness Week.

Staff at the nursing home, which is in Station Road, dressed in vintage clothing for the day and residents and guests were treated to a variety of seventies food and drink including Black Forest gateau and Babycham.

The day’s entertainment continued the 1970s theme with Abba tribute artist Amanda Parsons performing a musical medley, before residents and their families were tested on their knowledge with a quiz.

As well as bringing some light entertainment to the residents, the day also had a serious tone as guests, families and staff raised money throughout the week for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Dementia Awareness Week ran from May 15 until 21.

Manager Ian Stott said: “It was fantastic to have the support of someone as well-known as Murray Walker to help raise awareness of the Alzheimer’s Society’s vital work and their week-long Dementia Awareness initiative. We hope that by raising funds for their work, we can help support some of the 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK today.”
