RINGWOOD School will be the only school in the country to take part in the Big Issue London Night Walk.

The event, which takes place on March 2 next year will see 33 students from Ringwood School’s sixth form walk 13 miles throughout the night across London to raise at least £8,250 for The Big Issue Foundation. They will be joined by 500 other individuals.

Ringwood sixth form students have been involved in the Big London Night Walk since 2010 and this year are aiming to raise at least £250 each, a total of £8,250.

The students are currently planning their fundraising activities, ranging from car washing, cake making, bag packing, open mic sessions, dressing up in ‘bin bag fashion’ and lots more.

Year 12 student Charlotte Waller said: “I think its important to continuously shed light on the issue of homelessness. The Big Issue Night Walk is a great opportunity to raise money for those who are in need. I can’t wait to take part and do something for others.”

Helen Hoff, the senior cover supervisor at Ringwood School, said: “Over the last seven years, the Big Issue Big London Night Walk has been a powerful way for our sixth form students to consider the issues surrounding homelessness. It also provides them with the opportunity to meet and chat to the vendors themselves.

“The 13 mile walk is a challenge both physically and emotionally, as alongside the excitement of the Capital lit up at night, the reality of sleeping rough is evident. Our students never fail to be moved.”

The sixth form students have set up their own Just Giving page. Anyone wishing to donate go to justgiving.com/campaigns/charity/bigissue/ringwoodnightwalk.
