AN ALDERHOLT director is celebrating the release of his latest horror film which has been five years in the making.

Peter Goddard, who founded Devils Avalanche Films Ltd, wrote and directed Harvest of the Dead, which has been released on Blu Ray, DVD and on demand through two companies in the USA.

It follows the fates of four teenagers who venture in the countryside for a weekend of camping but someone lurking in the woods has other plans for them.

Peter was inspired by grindhouse and horror films from the 1970s and 80s and wanted to "pay homage" to the films that have inspired him. He describes Harvest of the Dead as a cross between Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Frankenstein.

Peter said: "It doesn't take itself too seriously and we just had a lot of fun playing with the cliches."

This is his third film release following his debut, Season of the Witch.

It was made on a shoestring budget with filming taking place in a number of locations including Alderholt, Ringwood and Cranborne.

Peter said: “I love the whole creative process, making something out of nothing and having an idea and putting it all together. There are so many different elements.

“It is nice to make something and put it out there.”

Harvest of the Dead stars Grange Hill actor Lee Macdonald and Tim Faraday, who has featured in Legend, Snatch, and Primeval.

“[Faraday] He’s a great guy, very funny and is very into filming as well.”

Peter has been directing for about 10 years and studied media and film at Brockenhurst College and decided to give filmmaking ago after leaving university.

“I gave it ago, it was something I had always wanted to do,” he said. “My first camera was a Canon XL1 and got some editing equipment on my computer and started doing it.”

Peter has other film projects in the pipeline. He hopes to make a sequel to Harvest of the Dead and is looking local actors or crew.
