Monthly chance to see great musicians in Fordingbridge
10:00am Monday 3rd September 2012 in New Forest News By Miranda Robertson
A NEW arts initiative is being launched “to bring quality music to South Wiltshire, West Hampshire, and East Dorset”.
Forest LIVE is a series of gigs aimed at showcasing local talent and providing education opportunities for young people.
The event has been launched by husband and wife team Tim Dench and Louise Jordan from Fordingbridge .
Mrs Jordan said: “There is a frustration over the large number of young people who move out of the area and therefore we thought something that focuses upon the community and provides an educational but enjoyable pastime would prevent this.”
Mr Dench said: “We each spent our childhood in the area and are keen to support the development of the local music scene.
“There is lots of talent here and we will provide opportunities to help individuals develop skills, knowledge and experience which will help with their future success.”
The concert series will run from September until December, with performances on the second Sunday of each month.
Nationally renowned Martin Carthy and Phil Beer are expected to perform in the initial concert series.
The first concert will be on Sunday, September 9 in Fordingbridge Town Hall, with the launch of Mrs Jordan’s second album, Florilegium.
She will be supported by local duo Mike Hamling and Matt Tarling. Doors open at 7pm and music starts at 7.30pm.
The Trust for Overseas Aid and Development (TOAD) will be selling food and fundraising at the concerts.
TOAD is a project developed in May 2009 to support the prevention and relief of poverty and to improve health, sanitation and education in deprived communities. TOAD’s recent activities have focused on the Mtwara region of Tanzania in East Africa.
On Sunday, October 14, Martin Carthy will perform, and local skiffle band The Frenzied and the Diligent will playing on November 11. Phil Beer will complete the line-up on December 9.
There will also be a local act at each event.
