A VERWOOD company has made it into the top 50 fastest-growing technology firms, moving up from 69th place last year to 37th in 2012.
Waste treatment and renewable energy specialists New Earth Solutions is featured in the prestigious Sunday Times Tech Track 100 league table for the second time, after developing a system that helps councils produce compost from waste.
New Earth, which is based on the Ebblake Industrial Estate, employs more than 160 people at five facilities across the UK.
During the last year the company grew by 78 per cent, with increased sales at its existing waste treatment plants, and opened its largest facility to date in Avonmouth, near Bristol.
The firm’s bio-stabilisation process produces organic composts and is also used to stabilise mixed waste to divert waste from landfill. The company also recycles plastics and metals.
Waste that is unsuitable for either composting or recycling is processed to produce a fuel.
New Earth is now looking to use thermal conversion technology to produce low-carbon renewable energy from biomass-rich fuels in renewable power plants and combined heat and power schemes for public and private customers.
The company has developed its own energy recovery technology which is being installed for its first commercial-scale application.
Finance director Darren Stockley said: “New Earth has positioned itself to benefit from the increased need to divert waste away from landfill and use more sustainable waste treatment methods.
“Our energy recovery technology New Earth Advanced Thermal (Neat) will further position us as an industry leader as our energy plant in Avonmouth completes commissioning early next year.”
New Earth has contracts to receive waste from councils in Bournemouth, Dorset, Bristol, Kent, West of England Partnership, Leicestershire, Scottish Borders, Bromley and Cardiff.
