Nod for more manure

ELIGIBLE farmers can ask for permission to apply more manure on to their grassland during 2013.

Although Defra has not yet secured formal approval from Brussels for a UK grassland derogation to cover 2013, it expects that a green light upon similar lines to current arrangements will be forthcoming in February.

With that in mind, a provisional process for derogation applications has been opened with immediate effect.

Postal and telephone applications can be submitted until February 28, while online applications can be made between February 1 and March 31.

While the process and conditions are similar to previous arrangements, there are some new limitations on the timing of applications, according to the method used.
