A NEW initiative has been set up by the EBLEX Better Returns Programme (BRP) for beef and sheep producers who want to get more out of their grassland.

Grazing Club is designed for any English beef and sheep farmers who have an interest in improving their grassland management.

Membership is free and members will receive a monthly email newsletter highlighting topical issues affecting grazing. The newsletter will direct readers to specially created information, top tips and case studies in a dedicated area on the EBLEX website.

EBLEX senior livestock scientist Dr Liz Genever said: “Well-managed grassland provides the most economic feed for livestock throughout the year, either as grazing or conserved forage, yet all too often it is overlooked and under-performs.

“I’ve met an increasing number of farmers who are aware of this and are really keen to take their production of grass to the next level.

Grazing Club will hopefully offer them the tools and resources to do this, as well as the opportunity to swap ideas with other club members.”

In addition to the monthly newsletter, a range of other activities which examine grassland topics in greater detail, such as webinars and on-farm events, will be taking place in the coming months as part of the initiative.

Producers who want to sign up should email BRP, via eblex.org.uk, quoting “Grazing Club” as the subject, or visit the Grazing Club section of the website for more information. Join in the conversation on Twitter using #GrazingClub.
