Come help clean up the New Forest
VOLUNTEERS from businesses, parish councils, youth groups and rotary clubs are sought to clean up the New Forest in a litter pick.
For the second year running, Forest Force, a partnership of the Forestry Commission, the New Forest National Park Authority and New Forest District Council, is launching its annual litter pick to be held from March 1 to 9, 2008.
Last year, 25 groups helped with
litter picks, along side staff from Forest Force organisations, and this year
volunteers are needed for the Ringwood area, Lymington area and around Beaulieu, Marchwood, Totton, Plaitford and West Wellow.
Volunteer co-ordinator at the Forestry Commission, Vicky Myers, said: "Last year was a great success and 143 bags of litter were collected during Forest Force' week. We have now identified areas which weren't covered last year and would like to encourage local
organisations and New Forest
residents to volunteer their time to clean up the Forest. Together with the new Forest District Council we work hard throughout the year collecting
litter to keep the Forest clean; we clean car parks and road edges as often as we can.
"However, we want to give the Forest its annual spring clean and are looking for volunteers to help."
Anyone who is part of an organisation interested in taking part should contact Roger Sired at New Forest District Council on 023 80285948 or e-mail roger.sired@nfdc.gov.uk.
Volunteers can choose the location of their litter pick. A series of public litter picks will also be held during the week. These will start at 10am and finish by 12.30pm. Volunteers should be at least 16 years old and need to wear strong footwear, warm clothing including trousers.
Anyone interested should
contact Alexis Reeve at the Forestry Commission on 023 80286840 or e-mail alexis.reeve@forestry.gsi.co.uk.
