Hear the dawn chorus and smell the aromas
WHAT better way to celebrate spring than to hear the dawn chorus, inhale the aroma of bluebells and listen for the first cuckoo.
An open day at the RSPB Nature Reserve, Garston Wood, near Sixpenny Handley on Sunday, April 27 should give visitors the chance to enjoy nature at its best.
Thanks to the dedicated work of many volunteers from the South Wiltshire RSPB group and the reserve warden, the wood will be filled with scented swathes of bluebells and wild garlic and the birds will be in full song as they start to breed.
The day starts with the option of a dawn chorus walk at 5.30am until about 7.30am when a cooked breakfast for £4 can be enjoyed. Please note that breakfasts must be ordered in advance by phoning Lucy Bennett on 01722 790595.
There will also be free guided walks of around an hour throughout the day until 4pm.
Walks will all start from the entrance car park at the northern end of the wood (SU 004 195).
For further information contact Tony Goddard on 01725 510309.
