State-of-the-art facilities for Tisbury

TISBURY’S new community campus will include business units, a learning and skills centre, a state-of-the-art library and a new sports hall.

The facility, which will be on the Nadder School site, is part of the latest wave of campuses to be agreed by Wiltshire Council.

In addition to providing space for training, it will house youth groups, fitness clubs and various council and police services. Wiltshire councillor Bridget Wayman, who is chairman of Tisbury and district leisure centre and also chairman of South West Wiltshire Area Board, said the new facilities would create “fantastic opportunities” for young people, the unemployed and residents returning to the workforce, enabling them to learn skills in areas such as catering and hospitality, mechanics, IT, rural crafts and the construction trades. She said: “Some people will undoubtedly use these skills to start new businesses, creating more jobs in the Tisbury area.

“The plans also go beyond training by including the provision of greatly needed business incubation units which will kick-start the enterprises of ‘ideas-rich’, ‘cash-poor’ local entrepreneurs.”

As part of the new development, Tisbury Leisure Centre and outdoor pool will be refurbished, with a new sports hall being built.

It will also act as a “social hub” for local people to come together for social, fitness, cultural, professional and volunteering activities.
