MP John Glen showed off his football skills during a visit to meet the Sarum Youth Girls team.

The girls, who are currently in their fourth season and play in the New Forest League, travel all over to play matches, with games at Corfe Castle, Crofton Saints near Portsmouth, and Winchester.

The team was formed by Karen Musselwhite in 2009 to promote girls football within Salisbury, and includes an under 15s side as well as an under 13s and under 11s.

Mrs Musselwhite said: “I really want to encourage more girls to play football, it’s so good for them.

“It’s a physical game, it’s very rewarding and it’s a team game, which they all thrive on.”

Four of the girls are doing GCSE sport at school and help coach the younger ones as part of their studies.

The teams train on Wednesdays at 6pm and play on Saturdays at 10am.
