A CHEERLEADING squad from Salisbury is entering its first regional competition at the weekend. Streetz cheerleaders are taking part in the British Cheerleading Association Southern Classic competition in Eastbourne on Saturday.

The squad’s two-and-a-half minute routine is full of gymnastic tumbling, stunts, pyramids, dance, lighting and music.

Debbi Penny, Streetz head coach, said: “I’m so proud of what our girls have achieved in such a short space of time. Exposing these cheerleaders, especially the younger ones, to the competition environment will hopefully inspire them to carry on through to the higher levels, which will help to grow the sport locally. “Although our cheerleaders practice every week, they are really looking forward to this competition because many of their friends and family have yet to see them in action.”

Streetwise Fitness run three clubs, in addition to the squad, in Winterslow, Downton and Salisbury, and welcome girls from the age of five with a free first session. Try-outs are being held on Saturday, November 10 for the squad’s next competition in February. For more information, visit streetwisefitness.co.uk or call 07747 774042.
