Fantastic fireworks in Salisbury

SALISBURY’S well-loved Spireworks event will light up the skies again on Saturday.

The fireworks display and bonfire at the livestock market on Netherhampton Road, is expected to attract thousands of people and organisers are urging them to travel to the venue using the free Salisbury Reds shuttle bus service.

Buses will leave the Britford and Wilton park and ride sites every 15 minutes between 5.45pm and 7.15pm.

Return services will commence at the end of the fireworks display.

David Huckfield, chairman of Wilton Rotary Club which is organising the event, said: “Car parking and traffic congestion have become our biggest headache as the event has grown over the years. Using the bus service is the quickest way to travel to and from the event and is cheaper than paying on the main gate.

“There will be bus lanes around the site from the highway and to the bus stop on site so buses will have total priority over other traffic.”

Britain’s Got Talent finalists The Loveable Rogues will be appearing live on stage and there will also be music and entertainment from Spire FM.

“In 2011 the event raised more money than ever helping us to make donations to more than 40 charities over the last 12 months including the Stars Appeal, Wilton and District Youth Band, Southern Spinal Injuries Trust and Riding for the Disabled,” added Mr Huckfield.

Gates open at 5.45pm, entertainment starts at 6.15pm with the bonfire lit at 7.15pm and the fireworks at 7.45pm.

Tickets can be bought in advance online at theticketsellers.co.uk, or from park and ride sites or the main gate on Saturday
