Gas works to be carried out in Coombe Road
3:36pm Saturday 10th November 2012 in News By Morwenna Blake
WORK is to be carried out to replace gas pipes in the Coombe Road area of Salisbury.
Southern Gas Networks (SGN) is replacing the old pipes with modern plastic polyethylene as part of its ongoing mains replacement programme developed with the Health and Safety Executive.
The final stage of this project will involve working in Coombe Road (A354) between the junction with Bouverie Avenue and Andrews Way.
This phase will begin on Monday, November 12 and last about four weeks. To allow room for the manoeuvre of equipment and for safety reasons, two-way temporary traffic lights will be in place for the duration of the work.
SGN construction manager Colin Horne said: “We have been working closely with Wiltshire County Council to plan this work in such a way as to minimise disruption to local residents and road-users.
“I would like to apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused by our work. We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks; however, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, people will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and secure gas supply for years to come.”
