Fireworks cancelled

THE fireworks planned for tonight’s Christmas lights switch-on in Salisbury have been cancelled.

Salisbury City Council has taken the decision that the display cannot proceed safely given the forecast weather conditions.

The entertainment planned for the evening will go ahead.

couldn't they have waited until later in the day to decide this.I would have thought more 4 p m than 11 p m it seems far too early in the day,given that lots have people have been looking forward to this for weeks.I know it is for safety reasons but we all know how unpredictable the great British weather can be.Now that the entertainment is going to take place on the Guildhall steps it's not really worth while turning up ,it's only people at the front will be able to see.
Maybe it should be cancelled for another time ,I am sure district 3 would be happy to do a second performance. What happens to the fireworks, when /what will they be used for ?

Weather warnings and strong wind have been forecast for most of tonight. As unpredictable as the great British weather can be, it can usually still be pretty accurately forecast by meteorologists.

Best to cancel it now than disappoint everyone when they turn up.

It was very windy at just after 7pm
Slight rain at 7.30pm

Strong winds and heavy rain at 8.15pm

Not a forecast , just a report on the weather as it is in Salisbury tonight.
The staff at the City Council had to take advice and decide early on, strange but when I left the square they were still 'on duty'. The fireworks would not been possible even if a decision was made later in the day. The fireworks can be enjoyed another day Sonia. Do not give up on these type of events, but H&S is a factor.

Ditto, we're still 'enjoying' the bonfire night fireworks 20 days after and, 35 days before November the 5th. Can't wait for the rescheduled firework display LOL
