CHILDREN at Mere School are celebrating hitting the high notes after releasing their own CD.

Each class chose a song to perform and the CD was recorded in school, featuring all children and staff, with the help of The Schools Music Recording Project.

A competition to design the CD cover was won by nine-year-old Harvey Emby with his entry Now That’s What I Call Mere School Music.

After the recording, the young performers put on a live show for parents and friends, featuring renditions of London’s Burning, Yellow Submarine and Don’t Stop Me Now. The show’s finale, Sing, written by Gary Barlow, was performed by the school choir.

The school has recently been graded as good by Ofsted inspectors, with commendation for some outstanding teaching.

Inspectors praised the school’s sense of community, high standards of behaviour and the children’s above average achievement in core subjects by the time they leave the school. The report also recognised Mere’s role as a training school through the Graduate Teacher Programme.

Headteacher Catriona Williamson said: “Staff, governors, parents and pupils make a huge effort to ensure children have a rich school experience at Mere. “I am really proud of our team and pleased our success has been recognised by Ofsted."
