New team needed to run Christmas market

A NEW team is being sought to take over the running of Amesbury’s Christmas street market.

The market has been run by Amesbury Rotary Club for the last 12 years and has become a popular event with a wide range of stalls, fundraising and children’s activities.

But Graham Browning from the club told a meeting of Amesbury Town Council last Tuesday that Rotarians were struggling to organise the event due to dwindling membership and the age of members.

“After long debate and much heart searching it was decided that the club is no longer in a position to offer the Christmas Street Market in Amesbury,” he said. “We are happy to advise future organisers and are keen to see it continue.

“We hope this will give an opportunity for the town council and Chamber of Trade to take the event forward.”

Amesbury Rotary Club will continue to organise the Tree of Light, where people can sponsor lights in memory of loved ones.
